Edward Marxen, II

Edward Marxen, II - artist and architect

Ed discovered painting while studying architecture at NC State University. His approach to painting is informed by an architectural interest in the genesis of form, space, and tectonics. Fascinated by how things are ‘built’, he seeks to understand the existential nature and structure of irregular forms and resultant space(s). Interpretations reveal primal complexities where systems and sub-systems vie for a place in evolving hierarchies. Emerging environments are composed and crafted into chaotic harmonies of aesthetic experience.

Patrick Harris - Fine Art

Patrick Harris grew up in the Piedmont of North Carolina and has been drawing and painting for as long as he could hold a pencil or brush in his hand. His mother was an art teacher in his youth and he followed and participated in her art classes and developed his love/hate relationship with art at that tender age. Drawing Abe Lincoln and luchadors obsessively, he developed a taste for pop and portraiture, which continues today. He went to several art schools and dropped out of each with a further disdain for art academia. His current work is fueled by the absurdity of and his fondness for the cultural wasteland. He quite literally wants his work to pop.

Millicent Greason - artist and Urban Artware curator

Artist, entreprenuer, and Renegade Ninja Cowgirl, Millicent Greason has been an integral part of the Winston-Salem Downtown Arts Distirct for over a decade. Behind the scenes as often as she is in the spotlight, Greason has a reputation for wearing many hats.

As an artist, Greason works out of her home studio located in the fabulous Ardmore neighborhood. She creates mixed media assemblages which serve as vessels of exploration into her own psyche.Though the process can be painful, the results are often theraputic and purging. Propelled by an acute awareness of the connections we all share, Greason uses found objects to draw on the familiar and creates new worlds for the viewer to explore. Though created with intention, the work is always open for interpretation.

partnered with two other college buddies in 1989 to open a gallery in charlotte called rococo fish. the gallery lasted about 3 years and only a small percentage of the city's population understood the approach. the remaining (much larger) percentage was too afraid to venture into that part of the city. during that time, began making very "hit or miss" art influenced by conceptual artists as well as artists such as robert rauschenberg and keith haring.
